Mr. Peabody and Sherman

This is one awesome movie I watched after I completed my FYP report.

I liked how animation can engage viewers in a world unlike reality. Some outrageous things happens but it helps you to think about how a world would be like that. What if a dog could bring up a child ? What gives an extraordinary dog the right to bring up a child ? What did the judge take into consideration when deciding such an issue.

Sherman, a young boy brought up by Mr. Peabody (after being abandoned when was being bullied in school. He got into a fight after a classmate said he is a dog. Sherman knew that he was not a dog and Mr. Peabody was. Being called a dog brought shame to Sherman and anyone could see that a human being called a dog would feel terrible.

There came a point in the movie where Mr. Peabody was to be captured by the police.

Sherman bravely declared, "There was nothing wrong with being a dog, especially a dog like Mr. Peabody!"

(some lines later)

"I’m a dog, too," Sherman answered proudly.

"What?" Miss Grunion said, annoyed.

"If being a dog means you’re like Mr. Peabody, who never turns his back on you, and who’s always there to pick you up when you fall and loves you no matter how many times you mess up, then yeah, I’M A DOG, TOO!"

That moment where being a dog was redefined by the words of a seven year old was a rather touching scene for me. Some outrageous words there. But it drew me to think about God, how He is a God "who never turns his back on you, and who’s always there to pick you up when you fall and loves you no matter how many times you mess up".

My next interesting observation would be that the words "God" and "Dog" are both the reverse of one another. There are times where people may not see God as God because their idea of God is not that outrageous to them.

"Can anything good come out of Nazareth?"
"Isn't he the carpenter's son?"
How can Christ come down as man, through a linage of broken people?
Why did Christ come to serve and not to be served? Why did he choose to life like a God/king ?

The dramatic entrance of Christ into our fallen world flips our world upside down and invites us to try and comprehend how life can and should be lived (though considered radical from the norm).

You are amazing God.
