I am at God's mercy

Today I was struck by a powerful reminder.
That I am always under God's mercy.

In Luke 17:5, the apostles plead with the Lord, “Increase our faith!” And Jesus says, “If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you” (Luke 17:6). In other words, the issue in your Christian life and ministry is not the strength or quantity of your faith, because that is not what uproots trees. God does. Therefore, the smallest faith that truly connects you with Christ will engage enough of his power for all you need.

As I thought about how overwhelming my service to God would be this year, this reminder came. I am not the real one at work, God is. I am a person under God's mercy and even flawless obedience leaves us utterly dependent on mercy. And it is a good thing to know that there is a God having a disposition to be kind and forgiving: a heart full of mercy isn't it?

Also, Romans 12:1-2 began to make more sense to me on why there is the emphasis on "the mercies of God" - the gracious, extravagant, divine graces which God's love, righteousness and the gift of faith (John Macarthur).
