Yesterday I took part in the route relay for sports day. When the whistle was blown, the first pair of each company dashed up the slope. My friend was in the lead in the very beginning of the relay, but he came back last for the first lap. Then he told me there were competitiors who pushed him. OUCH!
WHY did they do this? I was then when I realised that winning was important to them, probably the most important thing to them in that moment, that they would pull dirty tricks like that to accomplish their goals. Maybe they want fame or a medal, something that will fade away with time.
In life, I think there are two types of race. The first type would be the hedonistic race. Generally, humans have a pursuit of or devotion to pleasure, especially to the pleasures of the senses. They desire pleasure and find ways to avoid pain. They want money and fame to enjoy life and there no end to their pursuit. They are like hamsters running in their hamster wheel, running and running until they spent their life away.
The other type of race would be the Christian race. They don't know when it will end, but they know where they are going. They don't take things for granted. They don't pray for things to go the way they want but they pray for God's will to be done. They carry a cross, a representation of their willingness to suffer for God. They fix their eyes on God, who is also the author and perfecter of faith.
Which race are you in?
Where are you now?
Where are you going?
Who will walk beside you?
When the night is gloomy, where is the light to guide you?
