He upholds.

".... You are most high and You do not change. Nor does "today" ever come close to a close for you. Yet because of you each day does come to a close for us. The day finds its closing in You, for it has no way to end unless you uphold that ending."

~ St. Augustine

I really liked how St. Augustine put ideas into words. Here are some thoughts on it.

1. Every day, though normal, ends (and ends properly) because God upholds the ending of
that day. When he says that there will be dawn and dusk, each day will find its start in Him and finds its closing in Him. Upholding an ending means that He will make sure that the end comes to pass.

2. When we believe in Him, we know that He is for us, not against us. He will act according to His gracious mercy and loving kindness, including the ends which He wills and upholds.

3. Each day serves God's purpose, that it will start and close for us. While we often wish for a day to be more then 24 hours, an unending day can be pretty scary.
