In the quest for creativity

Today I read a few pages of this book about creative thinking. Those pages talked about the attributes which a creative person should have/do.

List A

1. Has patience

2. Delay judgement (pertaining more to ideas)

3. Tolerate boredom

4. Enjoy the process

5. Persist on

6. Controls his/her ego

7. Empathize (= putting himself/herself in other's shoes)

8. Has strengthened self-esteem

As I look through the list, somehow I could not help but notice that these are things we (especially youths) do not have. In comparison, this list below seems to describe people of our current generation better.

List B

1. Wants instant gratification

2. Easily place judgement (= discounting ideas) at first glance

3. Easily restless

4. More concerned with results

5. Give up after putting in a short duration of effort

6. Egocentric

7. Low self-esteem

More often that we know, we do not see process as a part of our results. Through setbacks, we humbly learnt lessons. Through victories we advance to face greater challenges. Yes?

It is comforting to know that changing our attitudes and behavior can change the outcome. It is even more comforting to know the One who gives us time to change, is the creator of all things and is creative. Perhaps by being more like the One, we will become to be more creative. =)
