Spiralling down

There's a reason why advertisers lust after the 18-24 year-old demographic: Young adults love to spend money and accumulate possessions. Single people, who often have more discretionary income, are most vulnerable. Money will get spent on nonessentials such as CDs, computer games and junk food. Credit is easy to establish and soon many people are on a downard spiral in consumer debt, snared by materialism.

Jeanette Thomas, who grew up modestly in a broken home, learned that God, not the paycheck, is one's source of security."We should view our check-book as spiritually as our devotion time," she said.

This downward spiral, in my opinion, has much more area of effect than just the monetary realm. It also reflects a default spiritual state. Since Satan is the prince of the world, (an invisible system of evil) those who do not hear of God will automatically be under his system, which brings them to hell.

Maybe you can think of it as quick-sand which slowly sucks you down. You look around and realised those around you are also in the same plight. And God is the only one who can rescue you and lift you up.

With liberalisation taking place (in different degrees, in different places) and even IR to be built in Singapore, it's not that difficult to picture this spiralling down.
