The God against other gods

Exodus 20:3 says "You shall have no other Gods before me".

I guess most of you should have heard of this verse. Our God is a jealous God. He meant what we said and he behave like this. Today, it dawned on me that he acts really harshly to those who deny him and follow other gods.

Exodus chp7-11 illustrates the 10 plagues that God casted on Egypt as the Pharaoh hardened his heart and was reluctant to let the people of Israel go. He chose those 10 plagues as he was against all the gods of Egypt. Every plague represented an attack on an object of worship in Egypt.

Polluted Nile - Khnum (guardian of river's source)
Frogs - Hapi and Heqt(frog god and goddess related to fertility)
Dust and gnats - Seb(earth god)
Flies - Uatchit(fly god)
Death of domestic animals - Ptah, Hathor, Mnvis Amon ( gods associated with cows and bulls)
Boils - Sekhmet(goddess of epidemics); Serapis and Imhotep(god of healing)
Hails and fire - Nut(sky goddess);Isis and Seth(agricultural dieties); Shu(atmosphere)
Locusts - Serapia(protector from locusts)
Darkness - Re, Amon-Re, Aten, Atum, Horus, Harakhete(sun gods);Thoth(moon god)
Death of first born - All of Egypt's gods, including Pharaoh himself

The aim of these 10 plagues was to turn their eyes and worship back to God of Moses Himself.

The 1st four plague produced only discomfort; The fifth brought death to cattle; The sixth produced physical pain; The seventh and eighth brought economic chaos;the ninth induced mental and emotional panic; and the 10th brought death to every Egyptian household.
Scary?

Now if God were to bring down plagues upon our nation, what would it be? I just thought about the economic downturn(and 财神爷). And it just so happen that we are in one now! Somehow, I happen to read a verse related to this matter today. "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate one and love the other, or he will de devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money." -- Matthew 7:24

WOW. It's just incredible how links are formed in a day.

Let this be a 'harsh' reminder to all of us to fear God and to worship Him and only Him.
