Many of us tend to romanticize occasions like Valentine's Day. But in the process of romanticizing occasions, I believe it is highly likely that we may blind ourselves and overlook something. Valentine's Day is perhaps a day which we romanticize and in turn, deceive ourselves that this world is filled with (only) love.
Personally, I do believe that God is love and he desires us to fill this world with love. However, taking into account the Fall of Man, our capacity to love was greatly affected. The Fall of Man marks the day mankind begun fighting with one another, struggling with love/hate and hurting one another in the ongoing process.
God has abundant love. Yet mankind seems to have a deficiency of love.
Think about it.
Jesus loves the world but was scorned and hung on the cross by those who he loves .
And perhaps, the reason why Valentine's Day came about was because of lack of love too.
(It was the day Saint Valentine was martyred in 270 A.D. by Roman emperor Claudius II Gothicus during the prosecution of Christians.)
The world is a place where beauty is coupled with ugliness.
The truth is this: God is perfect but this world is imperfect.
Let us examine what God wants us to see (and not overlook) in this fallen world today.
