and treasure up my commandments with you,
2making your ear attentive to wisdom
and inclining your heart to understanding;
3yes, if you call out for insight
and raise your voice for understanding,
4if you seek it like silver
and search for it as for hidden treasures,
5then you will understand the fear of the LORD
and find the knowledge of God.
6For the LORD gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;
(Proverbs 2:1-6)
This passage explicitly tells that knowledge of God does not drop from the sky nor come naturally. Receive...treasure up... make your ear attentive... incline your heart... call out... raise your voice... seek... search - if you do these the knowledge of God will be yours. Let it be a reminder that we simply cannot attain the knowledge of God with passiveness.
This passage also tells us that if we ever attain any knowledge of God, it is because God chose to bless those who seek to know Him and the things of the eternal. We pursue the knowledge of God and He gives it. Same for wisdom and understanding.
(A little question to ponder: Just what are you treasuring up in your heart?)
